Located in Nanning, the "Green City" of China and the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi Vocational College of Water Resources and Electric Power is a public full-time higher vocational institution under the administration of the Guangxi Water Resources Department. The college focuses on engineering disciplines such as water resources and electric power, complemented by liberal arts disciplines like economic management. Founded in 1956 as Nanning Water Resources School, the institution was renamed Guangxi Water Resources and Electric Power School in 1970 and upgraded to a vocational and technical college in 2002. In 2005, it became the first higher vocational college in Guangxi to receive an "Excellent" rating in the Ministry of Education's evaluation of vocational education talent cultivation. That same year, it was designated as one of Guangxi's first model higher vocational colleges. In 2008, it was listed as a national model institution for water resources vocational education. By 2016, it was recognized as a National Exemplary (Backbone) Higher Vocational College, entering the ranks of advanced vocational education in China. In 2022, it successfully passed the Guangxi "Double High Plan" evaluation with an "Excellent" rating. In 2023, it was selected as a Class A institution in Guangxi's new round of high-level vocational colleges and programs, and was ranked among the Top 50 in talent cultivation, service contribution, and industry-education integration among vocational colleges in western China.
The college promotes industry-education integration and divides its operations across three campuses: Changgang, Lijian, and Liangqing. It has established a professional cluster centered on high-level programs such as Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering and Power System Automation, supported by high-quality programs in Intelligent Manufacturing, Information Technology, Economic Management, Intelligent Construction, Automatic Control, and New Energy Vehicles. The college comprises 11 secondary schools, offering 56 specialized programs and 5 joint undergraduate programs, including 4 national key programs, 3 backbone programs, and 2 modern apprenticeship pilot programs. It boasts 2 national productive training bases and 13 autonomous-region-level model vocational education training bases, with a full-time student population exceeding 23,000.

The college prioritizes industry-education integration as its main channel for development. It has established the Guangxi Water Resources and Electric Power National Exemplary Vocational Education Group with over 500 domestic and international enterprises, including China Energy Engineering Group and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. It has co-built eight industrial colleges, such as Bagui Water Resources, Baiyue Electric Power, Baoying Construction, Zhongrui Automotive, and Houpu Software, fostering collaboration in talent cultivation, technical cooperation, base co-construction, and employee training. The college has been recognized as a National Exemplary Vocational Education Group Cultivation Unit and a Ministry of Education and Autonomous Region Modern Apprenticeship Pilot Unit. It has established 3 autonomous-region-level model industrial colleges and trained 120,000 employees in rural drinking water and water-saving irrigation for the water resources and electric power industry. It is the only Water Resources Talent Training Base for Ethnic Minority Areas in Guangxi recognized by the Ministry of Water Resources.
Actively responding to the "Belt and Road" initiative, the college has established the China-ASEAN Energy Vocational Education Alliance and engaged in extensive exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN countries in skills training, talent cultivation, and cultural exchanges. It has built 5 overseas education projects and bases, including the China-Cambodia Green Energy Modern Craftsman College and the Guangxi Water Craftsman Workshop, providing "Chinese + Vocational Skills" training to nearly 5,000 ASEAN professionals. The college has also developed Sino-British cooperation programs, the French Schneider Electric Green and Low-Carbon Industry-Education Integration Project, and the Sino-German Advanced Vocational Education Cooperation Project, integrating Chinese teaching standards and water resources and electric power technical standards. It has jointly developed 43 water resources and electric power teaching and job standards, with the "Water Resources and Hydropower Engineer Job Standard" and "Smart Water Resources Engineer Job Standard" adopted as national occupational standards in Laos. Over 1,000 outstanding graduates have participated in water resources and electric power projects in Cambodia, Vietnam, Pakistan, and other "Belt and Road" countries. In 2024, the college was selected for the "China-ASEAN Vocational Education Excellence Partnership" project.
Over the past 68 years, the college has produced more than 140,000 high-quality technical and skilled talents, who are active across the country, fulfilling the mission of building a strong nation. Over 100 outstanding alumni have been honored with titles such as "National Model Worker," "National May 1st Labor Medal," and "National People's Satisfied Civil Servant."
