In order to promote Chinese culture, deepen the sense of identity and pride in Chinese culture among our students, enrich campus cultural life, and enhance the cultural literacy of teachers and students, the General Education School, in collaboration with the Foreign Exchange Center and the Student Affairs Office, organized a "Guangxi Sanyue San: A Celebration of Chinese and Foreign Folk Cultures, Highlighting the Beauty of Diversity" folk culture experience event on the afternoon of April 7, 2024, at the "One-Stop" Student Community of our school's Changgang campus. Deputy President Liu Cunxiang, as well as key officials from the Student Affairs Office, Foreign Exchange Center, and General Education School, teacher representatives, student representatives, and nearly 60 international students participated in this event.
Deputy President Liu Cunxiang delivered a speech at the event, pointing out that "Guangxi Sanyue San" is not only a traditional festival of the Zhuang ethnic group in China but also a microcosm of the rich and diverse cultures of the Chinese nation. Strengthening the protection of cultural heritage, actively engaging in humanistic exchange activities, and promoting mutual learning and borrowing between cultures are essential for promoting the common prosperity and development of world cultures. He emphasized the importance of inheriting and promoting the national spirit and striving to promote programs with Chinese characteristics and Guangxi elements internationally, so that Chinese and internationa students can experience the cultural value and charm of Chinese civilization and the Zhuang ethnic culture of Guangxi.
Subsequently, a series of colorful folk culture experience activities were carried out, including "Folk Culture Science Popularization Experience," "Ethnic Food Appreciation," and "Folk Sports Experience." After learning about the historical origins and cultural connotations of "Sanyue San," Chinese and foreign teachers and students tasted the Zhuang ethnic cuisine "Five-Colored Sticky Rice" and danced to ethnic music. International students were deeply attracted by the Zhuang ethnic cuisine, costumes, and sports activities, immersing themselves in the experience. In a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, they participated in unique ethnic sports such as basketball-tossing with a embroiderred ball, shuttlecock kicking, bamboo pole dancing, and three-person wooden shoes walking. Amidst laughter and joy, they enhanced their understanding of traditional Chinese culture and experienced the unique charm of Guangxi culture, which embodies the principle of "appreciating the beauty in each culture and fostering harmony among diverse beauties."
This folk culture experience event enriched the campus cultural life of our teachers and students, demonstrated our school's active efforts and remarkable achievements in inheriting and promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture, and enhanced the influence of our school's international education. Through immersive experiences and firsthand observations, teachers and students gained a deep understanding of the colorful ethnic characteristics and strengthened their determination and belief in inheriting and promoting the diligent and brave spirit of the Chinese nation. International students also expressed that by personally participating in the traditional culture experience of "Guangxi Sanyue San," they fully felt the beauty of Guangxi's culture, ethnicity, and lifestyle. They developed a consciousness of respecting and learning from other ethnic cultures, actively engaging in cultural exchanges and learning, and looked forward to participating in more ethnic culture experience activities in the future to deepen their understanding of Chinese ethnic cultures.
