On the afternoon of November 8, after two days of exciting and intense competition, the 2024 School Athletic Meet drew to a successful conclusion amidst cheers and applause. Looking back on the two days of speed and passion, this was not only a sports competition but also a grand gathering showcasing willpower and spiritual demeanor.
At the opening ceremony, President Li Lin delivered a speech. He emphasized, "A strong sports sector signifies a strong China, and the rise of the nation is accompanied by the flourishing of sports." The school has always attached great importance to sports and consistently adhered to the principle of "promoting all-round education," actively fostering a campus sports culture atmosphere where "everyone loves sports and vitality is everywhere." This athletic meet served as a comprehensive inspection and display of the school's physical education teaching and mass sports achievements. He hoped that all athletes would carry forward the good style of "unity, friendship, and endeavor," promote the sports spirit of "higher, faster, stronger," and strive for excellent results.
Over the two-day competition schedule, 1,864 student athletes competed diligently on the field, demonstrating extraordinary sportsmanship. In sprint events, athletes were like arrows released from a bow, interpreting their desire for victory through speed; in long-distance races, they persevered, with every step challenging their limits; in long jump and high jump events, athletes leaped with elegant postures, showcasing a perfect combination of strength and beauty; in relay races, the tacit cooperation among teams pushed the atmosphere of the field to a climax... Among them, Peng Zonghui from the Electric Power Team 1 and Jiang Taifu from the Water Conservancy Team 1 both broke the school record in the men's 1500m event; Qin Dehao from the Electric Power Team 1 and Qin Junjie from the Transportation Team 3 both broke the school record in the men's 800m event. They not only won honor for their respective teams but also inspired the love and pursuit of sports among teachers and students throughout the school. In them, we saw the crystallization of sweat and perseverance, the witness of dreams and efforts, and a vivid interpretation of the "Water Power" struggle spirit of "the highest good is like water; self-improvement never ceases."
With the conclusion of the women's long jump finals, the 26 individual events and 18 team events of this athletic meet came to a successful end, with Electric Power Team 1 ultimately winning first place in the total scores for both the men's and women's teams.
At the closing ceremony, Deputy Presidents Jiang Wenpei and Liu Cunxiang presented awards to the top eight teams in both the men's and women's categories and to record-breaking athletes. In his closing speech, Jiang Wenpei hoped that all teachers and students would continue to carry forward the spirit of "never saying die and striving for first place" displayed during the athletic meet and convert it into motivation for study and work, continuously pursuing new breakthroughs and higher honors.
